Editorial: changing our look to meet your needs

Welcome to your new-look Learning Disability Practice website – I hope you like it and find what you are looking for.

We have redesigned the user experience with easier access to our entire archive of articles from all of RCNi’s publications, rolling news and interactive content.

Range of topics

Recent additions, which will be included in the July print issue, include an article by Carmel Doyle and colleagues looking at the problem of access to health care in Ireland for people with learning disabilities and how nurses can help to overcome them.

Amy Hutchinson and her colleagues write about teaching nursing students to use mindfulness with people with learning disabilities and in their own lives.

And Claire Tobias and colleagues review clinical supervision at a foundation trust, where they found that while most staff are getting proper supervision, there was a shortage of training for managers. There were also concerns about it becoming too managerially focused, which is a common problem.

Improving lives

The interview with Jonathan Beebee describes how he and his colleagues are helping vulnerable people to live happier lives. But it also gives a fascinating insight into the man and what drives him.

Elsewhere, we have an analysis piece about the future of nurse education, a policy update on the new nursing strategy and its ten commitments, and an interview with Hazel Powell about her career as a nurse.

All of this content is, of course, available online.
