Suicidal mental health inpatients: principal approaches to care

There are two principal approaches to providing care for suicidal mental health inpatients, these are: special, close or non-routine observation and engagement/inspiring hope. By engaging with the patient the mental health nurse can try to understand his or her needs and to develop the means to re-instil hope.
