The trial of a children’s nurse accused of murdering seven babies has been adjourned at Manchester Crown Court.
Lucy Letby, of Arran Avenue, Hereford, is accused of the murder of five boys and two girls, as well as the attempted murder of ten other babies between June 2015 and June 2016.
Court order prevents details of the case from being reported
The allegations relate to when Ms Letby was practising as a nurse in the neonatal unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital in Chester. Ms Letby denies all of the charges.
In the opening day of the trial today, Ms Letby appeared in the dock wearing a black suit and spoke only to confirm her name.
The hearing has been adjourned by Mr Justice James Goss while the court deals with legal issues that cannot be reported.
The jury is still to be selected for the trial, which is expected to last six months.
A court order prohibits reporting of the identities of surviving and deceased children allegedly harmed by Ms Letby, and identification of the parents and witnesses connected with them.
