Finalists for the RCN Nursing Awards 2022 revealed

Shortlist announced for the awards that showcase the very best of nursing and highlight the diversity of skills and innovation within the profession

The finalists for the prestigious RCN Nursing Awards 2022 have been revealed, showcasing excellence in the profession.

The awards celebrate innovation, skill and dedication in nursing across 14 categories, including Child Health, Learning Disability Nursing and Mental Health Nursing, as well as Team of the Year, which is judged by the UK’s four chief nursing officers.

One category winner will receive the coveted title of RCN Nurse of the Year 2022 at a glittering awards ceremony at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel in London on 6 October.

Awards finalists cover a wide range of specialisms

The shortlist highlights the diversity of the profession, and includes a nurse delivering cervical cancer screening in prison, health visitors supporting parents to ensure their children are not taken into care, and a team training and supporting colleagues in India during the pandemic.

Other finalists include an initiative to improve the care of young people and children in mental health crisis attending emergency departments, and five projects aimed at cutting CO2 omissions and making healthcare more sustainable.

Shortlist ‘recognises the enormous difference nurses make to people’s lives’

RCN general secretary Pat Cullen said: ‘This shortlist showcases the very best of nursing and highlights the work we do, day in, day out, to improve the health and well-being of our patients. I am so proud of all of these finalists.’

The Foundation of Nursing Studies is the event’s charity partner this year. Its chief executive, and chair of the awards judging panel, Joanne Bosanquet, said: ‘The quality of entries again this year was so high and it was near impossible to choose our finalists from the creative and innovative work submitted.

‘The shortlist showcases excellence and recognises the enormous difference that the nursing team makes to people’s lives throughout the UK.'
