The last 20 years have seen rapid advances in materials used to manage wounds. These have been accompanied by an extensive research-base advocating the use of new wound management products. This article is intended to provide some background to silver dressings which are increasingly being used. It will aid understanding of the outcomes we should expect from silver products and discuss the cost implications of silver therapy.
