<p>Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the major form of liver cancer. Although it was historically rare in the UK, HCC is on the increase. Patients are often asymptomatic when they present with HCC, and treatment options are limited. This article uses a case study to demonstrate the role of the research nurse as an integral part of a multidisciplinary team when managing a patient with a poor prognosis in a clinical trial. The patient in question has inoperable HCC and co-morbid conditions.</p>
