<p>Iron poisoning occurs in both adults and children. The mortality rate in children is higher; deaths in adults are comparatively rare. In England and Wales, between 1964-1976, there were nine deaths in children under 15 years of age attributed to iron poisoning (MacLean 1980); 219 people died from poisoning during the same period.</p>
