<p>Acute pancreatitis is a common emergency with potentially devastating consequences, but recognising symptoms early and good nursing and clinical assessment can benefit patients. Familiarity with the patho-physiology of the pancreas can provide an understanding of why acute pancreatitis can develop as well as its clinical presentation.</p>
