<p>Many A&amp;E departments in the UK have now adopted the Manchester Triage System, a system which selects patients with the highest priority first and works without making assumptions about diagnosis. This selection process is deliberate, and recognises that emergency departments are influenced by the patient’s presenting signs and symptoms (Manchester Triage Group 1997).</p>
