<p>There is mounting interest in the United Kingdom and the United States in the education of advanced practice nurses (APNs) and their roles, especially those related to the provision of health care and other services in emergency departments. Advanced practice nurse use and the number of APNs employed in emergency departments in the US are expanding as they are in the UK, and it has become apparent that there are both similarities and differences in their education and in the use of APNs in emergency care. This paper aims to share information about APNs in the US, and particularly those in emergency care, with colleagues in the UK.</p>
