<p>Wrist injuries are frequently encountered in emergency departments (Chakravarty et al 2002). When patients present with such injuries, the possibility of scaphoid fracture must be considered by specialist and emergency nurse practitioners because, if misdiagnosed or neglected, they can lead to long-term functional disability and chronic pain (Krasin et al 2001).</p>
