<p>This article discusses the complexity of UK public health policy, and how it affects learning disability nurses and service users, especially in light of the recent shift in emphasis from the provision of treatments to the introduction of preventive interventions. Learning disability nurses must update their knowledge of public health policy to be able to carry out these interventions effectively.</p>
