Support time recovery workers: 13 years on

An internet search using the words ‘support time recovery worker’ returns a high number of results; yet many people have never heard of the role. The aim of this article is to review the implementation and development of the support time recovery (STR) worker through the literature, examine STR workers’ roles and their needs. A questionnaire was given to STR workers to explore their views on training they had received and what would improve their performance. All of the staff who returned questionnaires were employed between 2010 and 2014, after the completion of the implementation of the role in 2007. It was found that there was no support network or specific training available for STR workers in post after 2012.
