Issues in infertility nursing: broadening the debate

Media interest in fertility treatments and the technologies used in the quest for a child by infertile couples seems to be inexhaustible. Open debate of the issues that are at the heart of nursing in fertility is vital to the development of caring practices in this field. However, extensive debate has been absent from the UK nursing literature that covers medical treatments and their potential hazards. When articles do appear, the authors seem to promote the assumption that these technologies and the industries that support them are inherently good. This is widely disputed by many nurses in the US and by feminists on both sides of the Atlantic.
