Finalists unveiled in this year’s RCN Nursing Awards

Showcasing excellence in the profession, the awards attracted a record 920 entries and the winners will be revealed at a ceremony in November
The finalists in the UK’s most prestigious nursing awards have been unveiled, showcasing excellence in the profession.
The RCN Nursing Awards 2023 finalists have been chosen from a record 920 entries. The winners will be revealed at an awards ceremony at Liverpool Cathedral on 10 November, when the RCN Nurse of the Year 2023 will be revealed from the category winners.
The awards celebrate innovation, skill and commitment across 15 categories, including greener nursing practice, digital innovation, learning disability nursing, mental health nursing and team of the year. They are judged by the UK’s four chief nursing officers.
The shortlist represents the best of nursing and showcases the work nurses do to improve the health and well-being of the people they care for. It features nurses from all four UK countries, highlighting the diversity of the profession.

RCN general secretary Pat Cullen said: ‘Our inspiring finalists demonstrate the very best of nursing and what can be achieved in some of the challenging times for the profession.
‘They highlight the wide variety of ways nurses improve the care of people at all stages of life and how they demonstrate their professionalism and clinical excellence every day, and in every setting, throughout the UK.’
Among the finalists is a team that impressed the judges with its commitment to caring for unaccompanied young people seeking asylum. Other finalists include nursing staff who have eliminated hepatitis C in their area, a hospital-at-home team keeping children with their families and a nurse inspired by a patient looking for a food bank to create a social prescribing website.
It was near impossible to choose finalists from creative and innovative entries, says judging panel chair
Foundation of Nursing Studies chief executive Joanne Bosanquet, the chair of the judging panel, said: ‘The quality of entries this year was superb and it was near impossible to choose our finalists from the creative and innovative work submitted.’
The RCN Nursing Awards this year will be held alongside Nursing Live, a first-of-its-kind dynamic event for everyone who works in nursing. Hosted over two days on 10 and 11 November at the arena and convention centre ACC Liverpool, the event will focus on both the professional and personal development of nurses at every stage of their careers.
