Two men arrested in Owami Davies case still under investigation

Police continue to investigate the case of nursing student Owami Davies, who was missing for seven weeks before being found alive and well
Two men arrested in connection with the disappearance of nursing student Owami Davies remain under investigation, police said.
Ms Davies, who was in her final year studying nursing at King’s College London when she disappeared in July from her family home in Essex, was found safe and well in Hampshire seven weeks later. Police had expressed grave concerns for her whereabouts but after several media appeals she was sighted by a member of the public, leading police to find her.
Five men had been arrested in connection with her disappearance – two on suspicion of murder and three of suspected kidnap. The Metropolitan Police have now confirmed that two of the men arrested for kidnap – a 22-year-old man who was arrested on 3 August and a 27-year-old man arrested on 6 August – remain under investigation.
’Immense relief’ when Owami was found
The force also confirmed that three other men arrested in connection with her disappearance no longer face charges. Ms Davies was reported missing by her family on 6 July after she had left her home two days earlier saying she was going to the gym and failed to return.
When she was found safe and well, Metropolitan Police detective chief inspector Nigel Penney from specialist crime had said police were ‘immensely relieved’.
Following her discovery, the police watchdog said it had ruled out a probe over a referral made by Scotland Yard in relation to contact officers had with Ms Davies on July 6. Police had found her asleep in a doorway in Clarendon Road, Croydon, but she told officers she did not need help and left.
Her family had already reported her disappearance earlier that day, but she had not yet been marked as missing on the police database, and the incident only came to light some days later. The force pledged to review the case to see if any lessons could be learnt.
