Digital nursing and mental health: can you inspire others?

Nursing Management is introducing two new content themes – digital nursing and mental health – and we encourage your contributions on these important topics

The role of digital technology in the delivery of patient care was accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic when remote triage and consultations became part of everyday practice in healthcare settings.

Yet despite growing evidence that a digitally literate nursing workforce can support and enhance patient safety and outcomes, many nurses report a reluctance to engage in the use of digital technology.

Lack of confidence in their digital skills and a lack of training are some of the barriers cited by nurses in two recent Nursing Management articles: Exploring perceptions of digital technology and digital skills among newly registered nurses and clinical managers and Improving nurses’ digital literacy and engagement with digital workflows through a data-driven education model.

Two new content themes: digital nursing and mental health

To help nurse leaders at all levels build their own and their teams’ confidence and understanding around digital technologies in healthcare, we have launched a new ‘digital nursing’ content theme.

Our aim is to encourage nurses who have successfully implemented digital technology in their workplace to write and publish articles with us that share best practice and inspire others.

Another new theme for this year is ‘mental health’ which we hope will support nurse managers and leaders to look after their own well-being, as well as that of their staff.
