BBC TV documentary series celebrates nursing in the NHS

TV presenter Myleene Klass is following in the footsteps of her nurse mother in a new documentary series on the NHS.
Matron, Medicine and Me: 70 Years of the NHS is a week-long BBC 1 series looking at the history of the health service.
In the second episode airing on 5 July, Ms Klass is joined by her mother Magdalena, who, came to England from the Philippines 40 years ago and trained at Northgate Hospital in Great Yarmouth.
Changes
Mother and daughter return to the hospital to see how things have changed, and even learn the fate of Magdalena’s old uniform.
Myleene also travels to Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast where she dons blue scrubs and joins its team of Filipino nurses.
In addition she visits Altnagelvin Hospital in Londonderry which was the first opened in 1960 and meets nurses from that time who explain how they got to grips with its modern technology.
